The importance of early and continuous mine closure planning has gained momentum in recent years, as many countries grapple with the legacy of closed and abandoned mines, which present varying degrees of risk. This Prospect magazine article takes a look at how the Western Australia Department of Mines and Petroleum's approach to mine closure has been applied overseas through a recent project to update planning for the eventual closure of a copper-gold operation in South-East Asia.
