This tool provides a set of Key Performance Areas (KPA) and illustrative examples of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assist in setting internal KPIs for asset leaders to support implementation of good closure practices at an operational level throughout the mine life cycle.
KPIs are important because they drive accountability for delivering business objectives and performance. The Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) tool for closure is designed to help companies develop KPIs which inform how well performance on closure is managed. Asset support functions (e.g. community development, mine-planning) may be assigned activities associated with the progressive and fi nal closure of a site, however the ‘asset leader’ with responsibility for all site activities (e.g. General Manager, Managing Director etc.), should ultimately be accountable for implementing progressive and fi nal closure practices.
