Mine Closure Hub

Sandy Worden, Lucia Neme, Patricia Munguia Llort and Rosemarie Tapia

The Mine Closure Hub is a virtual space that provides information and resources about mine closure and post-mining transition for host communities and other stakeholders, supporting them for future challenges.

The hub presents some global case studies about how communities have participated in mine closure planning. Additional videos and podcasts highlight the experiences and expectations of people impacted by mine closure.

The aims of the hub are:

  1. Enable communities and other stakeholders to prepare for active participation in mine closure planning and strategies for post-mining transition.
  2. Deepen the understanding of what happens when mines close, including closure processes, responsibilities and future opportunities.
  3. Provide ideas and pathways to help to interpret the often-technical information supplied by companies on mine closure.
