Social dimensions of closure webinar

Deanna Kemp

The FPIC Solutions Dialogue seeks to develop practical guidance to support FPIC community processes throughout the life of extractive projects. Members have shared rich experiences and lessons from many of the earlier project stages, but have not, to date, discussed FPIC considerations in project closure. On Wednesday, September 4th, the Dialogue began to explore this issue with an introductory webinar. Prof. Deanna Kemp, Director of the Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining at the University of Queensland, shared an overview of the kinds of issues that arise in closure which can impact communities, and introduced a new research initiative to collect further data and insights on some of these issues.
