The implications of mine close on surrounding communities: A case study from Nzega tanzania

Magreth Bushesha and Godleader Shoo

The study was undertaken to examine the implications of mining closure to adjacent communities with reference to Resolute Tanzania Limited in Nzega Tanzania.  The study is descriptive in nature combining qualitative and quantitative approaches.  Questionnaires, interviews, observation and documentary review were techniques used to collect data. Data was analysed using content and descriptive statistical analysis. Findings indicate that most projects which were introduced by the mining company in the study area collapsed shortly after mining closure. The collapse of the projects lead to developmental drawbacks in the study area. The study recommends policy intervention to enhance sustainability in the mining sector.
